We performed an assessment of Big Sur according to the principles of ISO 16128-1 and ISO 16128-2, which provide guidelines for defining the natural origin content of cosmetic ingredients and finished products. These statistics are based on these standards.

We Never Use These Ingredients:

Phthalates (including DEP, DBP, DEHP, BBP)

These are often linked to endocrine disruption and potential effects on reproductive health and development.

Parabens (including methyl-, ethyl-, propyl-, and butylparaben)

Primarily used as preservatives, they can mimic estrogen and are considered endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs).

Formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing agents

These are known human carcinogens and can act as strong skin irritants and allergens.

PEGs (polyethylene glycols)

While generally low-risk themselves, they are often contaminated with trace amounts of 1,4-dioxane and ethylene oxide, which are considered potential human carcinogens.

Synthetic dyes or colorants

These can often cause skin irritation and some specific colorants are linked to potential carcinogenic effects or contamination with heavy metals.

Nitro musks and polycyclic musks

These persistent ingredients can accumulate in the body and environment and are suspected endocrine disruptors.

Animal-derived ingredients

These are avoided for ethical reasons related to animal welfare and to prevent the potential risk of pathogen contamination.

Endocrine disruptors

They interfere with the body's hormonal system, potentially causing adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological, and immune effects.

Carcinogens or reproductive toxins as restricted by California Prop 65 and Washington State Safer Products guidelines

These are required to be avoided because they are scientifically known or suspected to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.

No synthetic, petrochemical, or chemically modified ingredients

This avoids potential irritants, allergens, and environmental pollutants often associated with these types of ingredients.

Our Ingredients are Derived in one of Three Ways:

Steam Distillation

A clean, chemical-free process that uses steam to extract highly pure, potent, and stable essential oils, preserving an ingredient's natural properties without adding in synthetic ingredients.

Cold Pressing

This method uses mechanical pressure without heat to extract oils primarily from citrus rinds, preserving the ingredient's most natural and potent state.

Fermentation from renewable plant-based sources

The process used to create the alcohol found in our products, providing a clean, non-toxic, and sustainable base

Allergens

Wild Apollo uses high quality, clean natural ingredients which often have allergens. Wild Apollo is not allergen-free. These ingredients are recognized as safe for the skin. We recommend users to patch test inside the elbow and read all ingredients before using. Stop use if irritation occurs.
